Social Media Series Part III: Instagram

In the final part of Communique’s Social Media Series, we will be discussing the importance of utilizing Instagram. While this medium tends to have a younger audience, it is an excellent platform to share visually appealing content.

 

1. For the last time, ensure your information is current.

As stated previously, make sure all of the information listed on your profile such as your phone number, website, and email address are current. We know this is a tedious house cleaning item, but it’s so important.

2. Ensure content is visually appealing.

Since Instagram is an extremely visual platform, it is key to post pictures and videos that are aesthetically pleasing to look at. Additionally, make sure your posts are the correct size for Instagram as this will ensure quality and that nothing is cut off in your post – 1080 pixels by 1080 pixels is the recommended size.

3. Develop a brand aesthetic.

Instagram is a great medium for honing in on your brand’s overall aesthetic. Consider doing this through the tone of voice used in captions and responses or even the filter on photos. Utilizing stories is also a great way to post current content and give followers an inside look into your business. There are lots of tools you can use to make your stories more appealing – gifs, stickers, music, different fonts, etc. Just make sure you are consistent with the font and the color you choose for your stories so that they match your overall aesthetic.

4. Share content that is relevant to your target audience.

Before you hit the share button, ask yourself “does this post provide valuable content to my audience?”. If the answer is yes, then go ahead and share. If the answer is no, then reconsider what you are posting (i.e. the image or the caption) and try to find a way to add value to the post for your audience.

5. Engage with your audience.

Reply to comments, positive and negative, and strive for the best customer service possible. Also, like and reshare posts shared by your followers to increase engagement. Instagram is a great opportunity to participate in two-way conversations with your audience. Ask them questions and provide answers and feedback to theirs. This is an effective way to build and maintain customer relations and create a positive brand reputation.
